When we began school, I recall all those long miles we had to walk, seven miles there and back (sure seemed longer than that!) every day to school, through the heat and the cold.  When we arrived at the one room school, we would study until noon.  So for the rest of the day, the teacher would say, "Go to the field and play ball."  That was the best of all!   Later we heard the teacher call, "That is all for today, good bye, you all."
